While sympathizing with the families of the abducted children and teachers, Duke cautioned against allowing grief, anger, and frustration to degenerate into violence, particularly in light of reports that some demonstrations in Oyo and Ogun States have become increasingly confrontational.“As a father of five children, I understand the pain of having a child in captivity without knowing what is happening to them.
The pain, fear, and anxiety are unimaginable,” he said.He stressed that while public advocacy remains a legitimate democratic tool, citizens must be careful not to inadvertently advance the agenda of terrorists by engaging in actions capable of creating further instability or distracting security operatives from their mission.According to him, terrorist groups often thrive on chaos, public panic, and social division, making it imperative for citizens to remain vigilant and avoid becoming instruments of psychological warfare.“We must not allow ourselves to become part of their strategy and we must avoid actions that could distract or undermine the efforts of our security agencies.
Our activists and concerned citizens must approach this issue with sincerity and responsibility. This is not the time to play politics with the lives of our children,” he cautioned.
Duke further called on political actors, civil society groups and opinion leaders to place national interest above partisan considerations and work collectively towards ensuring the safe return of the victims. At the same time, he challenged the government to recognize the growing frustration among citizens and accelerate efforts aimed at bringing the crisis to a successful conclusion.
He warned that public patience is gradually wearing thin and emphasized that the government must demonstrate urgency, determination, and strategic effectiveness in confronting the security challenge.“The government must realise that citizens are losing patience and that it has very limited time to secure the safe rescue of these children and their teachers, while also bringing an end to this menace once and for all,” he stated.Duke also urged authorities not to hesitate in seeking additional support, expertise, or collaboration wherever necessary if such measures would increase the chances of a successful rescue operation and strengthen the broader fight against insecurity. As anxiety continues to grip affected families and communities, Duke joined millions of Nigerians in offering prayers and hope for the safe return of the abducted children and their teachers. He expressed confidence that the nation would ultimately overcome the tragedy through unity, resilience, and decisive action, while calling on citizens to remain peaceful and supportive of lawful efforts aimed at resolving the crisis.“May they be reunited with their families soon and unharmed,” he prayed.
The appeal comes amid growing national concern over the safety of schoolchildren and the need for stronger measures to protect educational institutions from criminal attacks, a challenge many stakeholders believe requires sustained commitment from both government and society. For many observers, Duke’s intervention reflects a growing consensus that while citizens have every right to demand accountability and action from government, the overriding objective must remain the safe return of the abducted children and their teachers, whose lives hang in the balance.
