A prominent community development advocate and loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr. Ogbeni David Oni Sunday, has announced his decision to withdraw from active partisan politics with immediate effect.
The announcement was made through a heartfelt statement shared on his official Facebook page, where he addressed friends, supporters, political associates, and residents across Yagba East, Yagba Federal Constituency, Kogi West Senatorial District, and Kogi State.
In the lengthy message, Engr. David Oni reflected on his political journey, emphasizing that politics had never been about personal ambition, titles, or positions but rather about service, community development, and contributing to the growth and prosperity of the people. The community development advocate recounted his years of unwavering commitment to the APC, noting that he had consistently supported the party and its candidates with his time, resources, materials, and physical presence during elections and political activities, often making personal sacrifices for the party’s success.
He also recalled his two attempts to contest for a seat in the Kogi State House of Assembly representing Yagba East. According to him, on both occasions, party leaders and stakeholders prevailed on him to step aside in the interest of unity and cohesion within the APC. He stated that he complied without bitterness, believing that the party’s collective interest should always supersede individual ambitions.
Despite his continued loyalty and dedication to the APC, Engr. Oni disclosed that after weeks of deep reflection and self-evaluation, he concluded that the current political realities do not provide the clarity and assurance needed for him to remain actively involved in partisan politics at this time.Consequently, he announced his withdrawal from active politics “until further notice.”However, he was quick to clarify that his decision was not motivated by anger, disappointment, or disloyalty to the APC or any individual.
Rather, he described it as a conscious effort to reassess his life’s journey, refocus his energies, and seek alternative ways of contributing to the development of Kogi State and the welfare of its people.Engr. Oni expressed appreciation to APC leaders at the local, federal constituency, senatorial district, and state levels for the opportunities and experiences he gained throughout his political journey.
He also thanked his supporters, associates, colleagues, and well-wishers who have stood by him over the years.”As I take this step back, I ask for your understanding, prayers and continued friendship. Life is a journey of seasons, and sometimes wisdom demands that one pauses, reflects and charts a new course,” he stated.
The announcement has generated discussions across political circles in Yagba East and Kogi State, with many supporters describing the decision as a significant development given Engr. Oni’s longstanding involvement in grassroots politics and community development initiatives. While his political future remains uncertain, Engr. David Oni assured supporters that any future decision regarding his political engagement or public service would be communicated at the appropriate time.
For now, the respected community advocate says he is taking time away from active politics to reflect, refocus, and explore other avenues of service to humanity and society.
